November 2007

From your DC

Our membership renewal period is now complete and the new member assessments are underway! Thank you to all for sending in complete renewals and for the most part on a timely basis!

Our Regional Council Meeting was held November 10 in Seven Fields Pa. The Regional Council Meeting is held each November and February. The November meeting generally includes current DCs, Joint DCs, any other officers a club feels should attend, and incoming DCs and Joint DCs. The council is made up of the regional officers, (Regional Supervisor, Vice RSs, Secretary and Treasurer) and the representative for each club. A lot of information is disseminated and feedback from the prior year is discussed. Plans for the next years calendar are tentatively put on paper and the regional slate of officers is recommended and voted.

The meeting provides a forum for the clubs to discuss and make decisions that affect regional operations for the upcoming year. Many ideas are brought up at the November meeting for our DCs to take back to the club. Feedback from the club is then taken back to the regional meeting to be considered and the final plan is formalized.

Your feedback is important. Parents; please consider the topics and plan to discuss them at the January meeting. Members also, please consider the following topics. Connie Wyatt would like to hear from members on how they feel about our regional calendar and other topics. Think the topics through and give your thoughts as to how you as a member feel about them.

Topic 1: Spring vs. Fall Rallies and how it impacts National Championship Competitors

Topic 2: Written Test

Here are some other highlights from our Regional Meeting:

v      Regional Web Site and Newsletter: The website will be receiving a new look with a lot more information. The regional newsletter would like members and clubs to contribute to its content. Make it your time to shine or promote your club! Members, its time to brag or write about a topic that is of interest to you! Our club is scheduled to contribute in May and June, or any other time you have something to share.

v      USPC Website:Tons of useful information can be found on the site. Not only can you find those all important forms, but the USPC wide calendar under opportunities, and lesson plans for dressage and eventing under Disciplines. Give a look and you will be impressed enough to spend a lot of time surfing the USPC site!

v      C2 Rating will become a regional rating in 2008. More information will be available on this topic soon. Any member that plans to rate in 2008 should be working with their flow chart throughout the entire year.

Welcome to the new officers for Tri State Region:

o        Regional Supervisor:Connie Wyatt

o        Vice Regional Supervisor Rallies: Suzanne Weimer

o        Vice Regional Supervisor Ratings: Jen Sacksen

o        Secretary: Judy Pallotta

o        Treasurer: Anna Matta

o        Regional Instruction Coordinator: To Be Announced

o        Horse Management Organizer: Dave Wyatt

Our outgoing RS, Robyn Fillman, was applauded for her past 5 years as Regional Supervisor for our region. Her liveliness and personality will be missed! The region presented her with a brick in her honor at USPC Headquarters at the Kentucky Horsepark in Lexington, and beautiful throw purchased through the USPC Bookstore. (Ohio Valley Pony Club as a fundraiser makes the throw and is sold through the Bookstore, check one out!) Robyn has truly enjoyed getting to know our children and takes many fond memories with her.

HMO Dave Wyatt gave his thoughts and observations about our members work in horse management. Dave told us about how conscientious our competitors were and the concern and care they show their horses. He was impressed by how well prepared our competitors were and saw our kids at their best. Dave much enjoyed the children of Tri State Region.

Junior Board

Hi Fellow Members,

Our Halloween Party was a lot of fun, a little chilly, but that was what all the great hot food was for. We played a lot of fun games and had some interesting costumes. Mrs. McKnight put together a list of Great Costume Acknowledgements:

Nate Wildest Hare (Harvey)

Andy Wildest Hair, how about that flat iron! (Ugly Betty)

Ariel W. Best use of pieces parts (Wookie)

Devin Most understated yet elegant she & her horse always look so elegant and cute and put together (Teen Angel)

Ariel and Maggie: Pretty but Scary as Maggie had every horse there panicked (Witches)

Biggest Baddest Bat; Brandi (Bats)

Colin, Vet on Caffeine

**Best Costume: Lauren, not many horses would wear the R2D2 helmet like it was normal** Lauren was C3PO and Angel was R2D2

For the Christmas party this year we will be holding a Secret Santa! Each member will be personally contacted as to whom they are buying for. The gift should be appropriate for your chosen one, and be between $10-$15. You will be contacted very soon.

See you soon!

Bath Pony Club Polo (BPCP) is off to a great start! Our first session included polo basics like properly applying a polo wrap, tying polo tails, off-side forehand shot technique, off-side backhand shot technique, line of ball, and right of way. We measured for mallets and accessories, and then improvised with one regular mallet, one 28 in. foot mallet, and the rest played with brooms from our horse trailers. Our players did a phenomenal job of mastering the basics and we were able to scrimmage on the very first night! Nate looks like a future high-goal player riding the Gaffney's unflappable Not. Ariel had amazing accuracy, while her mount Torito seemed to say This will be even more fun once you guys are ready to play at a gallop. Jake showed his unerring hand-eye coordination and Oliver proved that you are never too big to be a great polo pony. Mackie quickly convinced Brooks that this was fun and they looked very pro-polo as they cantered into their shots. Colin proved that he and Smokey are a force to be reckoned with by always getting back into the play and making consistent shots, even when hanging off the side of Smokey and hitting with a 28 in. foot mallet! It is not too late to come join us. We play Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM, at the Chlebina's indoor arena. All players, ponies, and parents agree this is just plain fun!

Accepting applications

Libby (Lady Liberty) has returned to the Hoosers from her 2 year lease with Lindsey Pinkerton. She is accepting applications for her next fan.

Libby is a fabulous D2-C1 mount.  She does games, dressage, great jumper and very successful Beginner Novice Eventer.  Libby & Lindsey were 1st in Area 8 (recognized Horse Trials) this year and 8th Nationally!

Libby is a draft/paint mare, 15 very solid hands, age 14.  She is a wonderful horse which is why she is never for sale but would consider sharing her skills with a caring, motivated, perhaps timid rider in a lease arrangement.  She would prefer to remain with a Pony Club family.  Contact Libby to schedule an interview c/o Karen Hooser, 330-659-3515
