August 2007

From your DC

It has certainly been a busy for summer for Bath Pony Club.We have been attending rallies, competitions, camp and ratings!

Congratulations to Ariel Wyatt for obtaining her C3 Specialty Rating and her HB this past month!  Ariel is one of the first in our region to attend a specialty rating.  It is new to USPC and this is the pilot year for the specialty rating program and the knowledge HB program. The C3 testing is now conducted by National Examiners and is very rigorous. After reading through the test criteria that Ariel had to demonstrate, I can tell you, this is quite an accomplishment.

Ariel explained to me that once Highland High School was out for the summer, USPC School was in!  She set aside an hour each day to study and prepare for the HB, (knowledge).  Ariel also attended the weekend clinic in April and Upper Level Camp in June.  Ariel demonstrated that it takes preparation to achieve your goals.  We are very proud of her accomplishment!

Congratulations to Annie Garrett on passing her B rating with what had been described to me as, “with flying colors!”  Annie has chosen to stay with the traditional path in her pony club career.  Passing her traditional C3 last year she also had to do her knowledge at the same time, thus Annie now has a full B rating.

Annie has been working for a long time to achieve her goals.  She started working on her B rating even before she obtained her C3!  Over time Annie understood where her strengths and weaknesses were.  She then set about improving on areas that needed work and putting the polish on her strengths.  She rode many different horses to help her find any kinks she may have, worked with her horse Dazzle, worked with trainers such as Ralph Holstein and Jeni Gaffney all to improve her position and give it her all!

Annie was able to demonstrate her skills and abilities beautifully and we are all very excited and very happy to have her as our B member!

Our club was well represented at National Championships this year!  The Tri State team included members of Bath in Training Level Dressage, (Andy and Ariel Wyatt riding and Lindsey Pinkerton stable manager) Beginner Novice Eventing, (Sydney Pinkerton riding and Mary Hooser stable manager) and Courtney Chlebina rode with the Training Eventing team.  Our members did very well, Andy and Ariel rode had very consistent scores and rode very well, and Sydney and Mary participated on a team that finished in the ribbons in riding and horse management.  Courtney had a lot of fun with her three-man team, giving their best efforts the whole way through.  The Hooser’s, the Pinkerton’s and the Wyatt all stayed after competition for Festival.  Mary told me about some of the clinics she went to.  She really enjoyed the cross-country clinic and accomplished some goals for her and Toby while there.  Meredith told me that she had a blast at the Tetrathlon clinic!

The mini trial went very well!  We received many compliments on the course and our courteous staff.  I overheard someone remark at cross-country, “You can tell which ones are the pony club kids”.   They were probably referring to a number of wonderful attributes, like pulling up after cross-country and taking care of their mount, or knowing the rules of competition, or their helpfulness at every turn, or their smiles while bouncing around with each other!  On another front the mini trial was also very successful with 93 rides entered!

Bath Pony Club is proud to host the Tri State Region Mega Event Rally on Sept. 8.  Competitors and Judging Staff will start arriving on Friday.  Whether your child is competing or not, all families are required to volunteer, as we are the host.  Parents of competitors that are attending will all be given something to do, but we will need every available Bath family to have a safe competition for all our children and their ponies.

The majority of the grounds work is done, but all fences will need to be weed whipped again by Wed.  There were a few fences that were not trimmed for the mini trial.  Many of the volunteers from the mini trial will be doing the same job at the rally.  Listed below are areas we will need additonal volunteers:

Cross Country Jump Judges:Contact Karen Hooser

Stadium Paddock and Timer Contact Tracy Pinkerton

Dressage Runners and a Scribe Contact Marilyn Intorcio

Registration help:Contact Michele McKnight

Concessions:Contact Cindy Buerling

There are many areas and levels of help, so parents and non competing members are needed.

Junior Board

Hi Fellow Members,

I hope everyone had a great time at camp; I sure had a lot of fun!  Did you get your stall plaques hung on your pony’s stall? I came home and bought some more so each of our horses can have one!!

The mini trial was great, there were a lot of members riding and helping.  It was really nice to see everyone once more before school started.  We don’t have anything else planned in the near future, other than help where needed.  The club has a lot going on this next few weeks, Rally, Hunter Pace, Rating and Oktoberfest.  We should offer to help where we can!

Junior Board will need to have a nominating committee for next year’s slate of officers.  We would like to have 3 members on the committee.  If you would like to be on the nominating committee, please call Mrs. Totten and let her know.  Once we have a nominating committee, members can call the committee if they are interested in the position of President, Secretary or Treasurer.  All terms are for one year, but you can be renamed to that position for two years in a row.  We hold our elections at the annual Christmas Party.

See you at the rally!

Grounds

The park is in great shape, the rain from last week made the footing very nice in most spots.  All course paths have been finish mowed and the Hunter Pace paths are being worked on.

Many thanks go to our Friends of Bath Pony Club, David Middleton and Molly Eastwood.  They spent several hours mowing the front common areas for us!  The mowing takes an exceptional amount of time, and without the efforts of our neighbors it would have been very difficult to get it all done.

The small-enclosed ring now has a set of locks.  The combination is 5867.  If you forget the numbers, look at your cell phone keypad and spell JUMP.  We will be changing the locks on the main gate, (East only) hopefully on Wed. Aug. 29.  The new combination will be 8772; which is USPC on your phones keypad.

We have also been recently offered some plants for our cross-country course by Suncrest Garden Center.  When the plants arrive, we will need help to put them into the ground!
